A time when I had to look at data when making a decision would be when I helped my parents figure out if they could afford to buy a new home we had to look at the income and look at the interest levels to really see if they could afford it. An example that would not represent the population well would be the ethnicity of the people. An example that would represent the population well would be the ages of the people. The relationship of a sample to a population would be the correlation between the two and something that is beneficial in clarifying the topic.
