CIS 110 Module 8 Assignment: Intern Research and Recommendation

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools are excellent tools for managing business relationships. You will learn more about these in Chapter 12 (Unit 3/Module 13.). For now, let it suffice to know that they maintain massive amounts of data on customers, purchases, preferences, individuals, and products. This amount of private data MUST, of course, be kept secure.

Instructions

For this assignment you will be working with Hannah Shaw, Marketing Director for All About Sports, a regional sporting goods retailer. Having chosen the software application suite Sa as their CRM tools, All About Sports has set to create a unique experience for their customers. The company can now maintain a complete customer profile that includes the ages and genders of their children (based on the sizes of athletic war purchased), the sports the children are engaged in (based on product purchases), spontaneous purchases (do they buy candy when they come in for baseballs?), outside team affiliations (do they wear and buy Atlanta Braves memorabilia?), and more. All of this information is rather private, especially when it concerns children. Parents might be a bit unnerved if they realized how much All About Sports knew about their family habits!

Below is a letter from Hannah detailing what she needs from you on this project.

From: Hannah Shaw

Subject: Help Reviewing Security Policies

We at All About Sports have recently chosen Salesforce.com as our CRM tool. Our goal is to create a unique experience for our customers. I am very concerned, however, about maintaining the privacy of our customers information, especially information about their children.

To help me out, I would like for you to review a fairly recent framework published by the U.S. government called the Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity. (It can be found by searching for that title.) Section 3.0 of the document describes How to Use the Framework and provides specific suggestions concerning actions I would need to take both electronically and physically to secure my customers information.

Read over this document and prepare a summary for me. Dont copy and paste it I can read the entire document myself if I want to. Let me know how I would proceed to ensure that my operational relationship with Salesforce.com will be secure and well-designed for my customers.

Please be sure to document this research in a format we can place in our Knowledge Base and easily share with others who may need to reference it as time goes on.

Thanks so much!

Hannah

CIS 110 Module 8 Assignment: Intern Research and Recommendation

To accomplish Hannahs request, you will need to:

Read the referenced US government brief.

Familiarize yourself with what Salesforce.com offers their customers for privacy and security at a high level by browsing through their web site. (Hint: Think about how they build trust with their users regarding privacy and security, and look around their web site for how they communicate system status to that end.)

Develop recommendations for Hannah on how to proceed with communications with Salesforce.com as to your expectations as their customer.
