Client success is not guaranteed, especially if the counseling relationship has not matured properly. Consider the following scenario where a client's progress has stalled. Provide at least one non-scale metric you could discuss with the client and why these non-scale metrics are so important for the client to relate back to their long-term progress. Be sure to include specific examples and/or references in your response.
Client Scenario: Your client is returning for his third session where his weight loss has plateaued. Since beginning to work with you, the client has lost 5 lb, but he is seeking additional weight loss. He reports doing "everything" you discussed but cannot provide much detail related to daily changes and/or adherence. The client reports this past month was particularly challenging at work and he has had minimal time to exercise and plan his meals. While he is attending the session, his motivation to continue is low, and you feel a sense of urgency to re-enthuse the client.
If you have any scenarios you would like to share about patient situations you have had and how you have navigated them in this type of situation, feel free to share.
