Drivers of change are scenarios that would alter the culture of the way sports are being viewed, and overall, experienced by not only the fans and audience but for the athletes as well. The drivers of change are broken down into eleven different areas of change within the sports industry. These areas in the sports industry include; the stadium, broadcasting, the athlete, the third venue, sponsorship and advertising, teams and leagues, e-sports and fantasy sports, the fan, extreme and adventure sports, payments and ticketing, and fanbase economics (). Each of these areas are then looked at as a timeline. The idea is to see how things can shift and prepare for when any of the scenarios were to come true. The timeline is broken into what the different areas of the sport industry will look like in 1-5 years, then 5-10 years, and then 10-25 years later (Rosen, Introduction - gannett-cdn.com).
A possible outcome of these changes would be a change in the stadium environment. Stadiums want to improve their technology to give fans an experience that they would not get at the comfort of their home such as on field holographic replays and glasses-free 3D technology in the luxury box suites of the stadium. With the access fans have now in 2023 with sports, stadiums must find ways to improve the fans' experience that they would benefit from instead of them watching it at their home and not buying a ticket. Another possible outcome is tickets becoming 100% paperless. We are living in a world where everything is through technology and is very possible we will have paperless tickets. Even simple things such as our bank statements are now paperless (Rosen, Introduction - gannett-cdn.com).
I think that genetic enhancements for athletes are the most probable outcome. CRISPR is a genetic editing technology system that helps promote key physiological factors which is also being used today. In 1-5 years fans will be starting to gravitate towards players that are successful in the sport because of their mentality and hard work and not athletes who have a physical advantage due to the suspicions of players sport doping to gain advantages on the court and field. In 5-10 years because of this technology athletes will be able to receive genetic enhancements for injury prevention. By this time down the line fans will be more accepting of the sport doping enhancement, but to only what is a "safe level". In 10-25 years it is expected that there will be two different leagues; natural athletes and enhanced athletes. I see this as a realistic timeline because as stated earlier in the paragraph, this technology system is being used today so we have already started the timeline (Rosen, Introduction - gannett-cdn.com).
