Company XYZ is planning to develop a water treatment plant for producing drinking water from river water. Initially, you have been assigned to propose the water treatment processes to cater for dry-weather turbidity of river water with less than 10 NTU. However, from your observation, the turbidity values can jump into hundreds of NTU during heavy rainy seasons. The high turbidity in river water also can be caused by human activities in upstream areas such as mining and logging activities. Due to these reasons you need to make some modifications to the previous process (Route 1), so that your proposed water treatment plant can cater for both low and high turbidities water throughout the year. The treated water quality must follow the drinking water quality standards set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia. Prepare your proposal with the following information: i) analyze the composition of river water, and the drinking water quality standards. ii) propose the water treatment processes and justify the selection of unit operations involved in the water treatment processes. iii) sketch the block flow diagram of the process
