compare the performance of 2 stocks:

Amazon.com Inc

Walmart Inc.

Download the 10-K report obtained from https://www.sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/companysearch.html

Instructions of how to find the 10-K filing is at the end of this document

Fiscal year note: Fiscal year for Walmart Inc. ended Jan 31 while Amazon.com Inc. ended Dec 31. Since they are just 1 month apart, the fiscal year for Walmart ending on Jan 31, 2019, is comparable to the fiscal year for Amazon ending on Dec 31, 2018.

For fiscal year 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 calculate ROE(%), ROA(%), Current Ratio, Debt Ratio (%), Total Asset Turnover Ratio, and Inventory turnover ratio for each firm. Then calculate the average of each ratio over 2016-2019 period.

From the 10-K data, only use Consolidated Balance sheet and Consolidated Statement of Income/Consolidated Statements Of Operations (DON'T use Consolidated Statements of Comprehensive Income).

Few note on data and methodology

-To be consistent, data for fiscal year must be extracted from that year's 10-K (We know that a given year report includes numbers for previous year. That number might not be the same as in previous year's 10-K due to adjustment).

-ROE and ROA: using Net Income OR Consolidated Net Income

-Using Net Sales for all ratio related to Sales.

-Debt Ratio = Total Liabilities / Total Assets OR (Total Assets - Total Equity)/ Total Assets

-Inventory turnover: use COGS

-For ROE, ROA, Inventory turnover ratio and Total Assets Turnover ratio, you need to calculate the average for the denominator.
