I am currently participating in an advanced social work internship in an addiction medicine clinic. I will begin by shadowing a member of the Inpatient Addiction Consult team. I will then move on to completing biopsychosocial assessments, providing brief interventions for patients in the areas of crisis management, motivational interviewing, Screening Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), and psychoeducation on various topics such as harm reduction, intoxication, and withdrawal from substances, goal setting, managing triggers, and developing coping skills. Additionally, I will participate in discharge planning and identification of resources in the community to assist patients once discharged.Further tasks will include assisting in developing patient education materials and conducting screenings for resources to serve clients with substance use in the community. Finally, I will help with data coding and tracking of patients through the RedCAP system to include engagement calls with discharged patients at 30, 60, 180-day intervals.

In my course, we are being asked to construct SMART goals in relation to the Nine Competencies of Social Work set forth by the Council on Social Work Education. Below I have included the areas I would like to focus on within each competency. Where I am struggling with is coming up with SMART goals for each. By SMART, I mean Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound. Example: Student will insert practice behaviorby date, as evidenced by measurement. Example Macywill utilize appropriate resources and services for clients weekly,as evidenced by client chart documentation.

I must have two goals for each competency. Any assistance with how to break this down would be appreciated.
