Compose a concluding and thoughtful paragraph for the topic, Introduction Establishing on-site daycare facilities for service members, military contractors and their families is crucial for their physical, mental, and financial wellbeing. Few military installations across the U.S are equipped with Childcare facilities. Childcare for service members could be a determining factor as to how long a service member could serve in their respective branch of service. Again, Installation or workplace Childcare for Service members could save them their money, time and career longevity especially for members with kids who need extra care. "Some children may require more than routine or basic care, such as children at risk of, or who have disabilities, chronic illnesses or physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional conditions." (US Military,2023). The introduction of a new Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) focused on childcare could alleviate the current burden faced by service personnel on finding quality childcare, enhancing their productivity, time efficiency, and overall well-being of their families. This paper will explore the importance of workplace childcare for service members, the physical and mental impact of childcare on soldiers, cost and quality of childcare, and the impact of childcare on retention rates. Importance And Benefits of Workplace Childcare for Service Members. It is difficult for service members to locate childcare services off the installation. Moreover, it is exceptionally much difficult for service members with disabled children to locate childcare services off military installations. This raises a lot of concerns and worries for families with childcare issues. Some concerns include," To what extent is time lost from duty a problem for service member families with children? Does this vary by type of childcare arrangement?"(Gail & Anne, n.d). The need to establish onsite or workplace childcare on installations could eliminate unneeded time lost service members incur from duty hours. Moreover, a huge number of waiting lists on the DOD system indicates the insufficient number of childcares on installations. This is due to the significant rise in the number of service members in all the branches of service. In 1993, there was a recorded number of 166,622 children on DOD waitlist for childcare. (Gail & Anne, 1995). Making childcare available for service members and considering making a MOS for childcare will ensure the safety and protection of children are secured. As inspired by Hayes et al, 1990- " NAEYC has established a set of professional quality standards that must be met in order for CDC to be accredited. Standards incorporate two types of indicators, with caregiver-child interactions particularly closely associated with child development outcomes such as gains in cognitive development. ( Gail & Anne, 1995). Installation "Workplace" Childcare Cost and Financial Impacts on Service Members. Childcare is extremely expensive irrespective of the number of kids a service member household may have. Paying for one kid could be very expensive. Two or more kids could be a headache for especially single service member households. Moreover, the financial and commute demand associated with off installation childcare facilities for soldiers is very tiring and also costly. On base or workplace childcare centers for service members get fund support from the government. This reduces the financial burden for childcare. " About $Three hundred and fifty-five million in federal funds was obligated in fiscal year 1998 for DOD's child development program. DOD allocated approximately eighty percent of this amount to child development centers, ten percent to family childcare, and 10 percent to school-age care". ( Lott, Craig, &, Coverdell, 1999). "Every military family with a child enrolled in a military child development center is eligible to use subsidized care regardless of the parent's military rank or fam
