Question: Comment on one of the models (Exhibit 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5) OR one of the thirteen strategic staffing decisions. How could these models or strategies apply where you work?
Response:
I chose Exhibit 1.5, The Staffing System Components. In this system, the applicant and the organization are considered players in the staffing process from the moment the applicant looks for a job opportunity within an organization and an organization looks for applicants to fill job vacancies. This is very similar to my employer where the first stage in staffing is recruitment, which identifies and attracts applicants. They do this by advertising, using recruiters, having job fairs, and putting out the word among their employees. When I was hired, they did a massive hiring in the process of three years. I started out as a service representative and with time and acquired learning, have been able to move up within the company. My company offers incentives, as money, to employees to refer a friend. If the referred applicant is hired, meets the criteria and completes their time in title, they are added into a raffle for more incentives. In the next phase, the selection phase, the organization reviews the resumes received, and proceed to interviews, and application blanks, to assess the applicants knowledge, strengths, abilities, and opportunities, or KSAOs, (Judge, 2022). At the same moment, the applicant will assess the position from the information given by the hiring manager or recruiter. Once both the applicant and the organization have assessed one another, they will determine if they have a match. In the final phase, employment, it will be determined who is hired and who is rejected. The finalist will be offered and presented with the job offer. Upon the acceptance of the job by the applicant, the match is complete and established. In my company, we had an extensive nine-week training where we were also working hands-on. This was a good way to apply what we were learning on the job. I have worked for banks, law offices and now telecommunications and these companies have had this type of staffing system. The experience acquired has helped to grow and my company will promote from within before hiring externally. The company continues to apply the same type of staffing process for higher positions. Staffing can be a reminder to employees that management is committed to hiring the best people who will raise the quality bar so everyone feels compelled to step up, (Wroblewski, 2020).
