1. Conduct a field observation and complete the assignment, following these instructions:
   1. Plan a public display of nonconformity, or do something that others will conform to without good reason. Some examples might be going in through the out door in a busy store or office, standing at attention in front of a statue, saluting people as you walk by, forming a new line at a store or outside of a building, talking loudly in a restaurant, staring up at something in the sky, or anything else that is legal and will not offend others.
   2. Examine your expectations before going on this observation. Report what you think will happen before you conduct the behavior of nonconformity.
   3. Identify the reason people complied (yielding to be right, yielding to be liked, yielding to be consistent, etc.) and explain.
   4. Conduct your field experiment and observation, taking notes that include the following:
      1. What did you experience? Did you see any examples of injunctive norms? What about reciprocity?
      2. Did you experience what you expected?
         1. How was it different?
         2. How was it the same?
         3. Did others go along with your behavior?
         4. How did they react?
         5. Did more people comply or fail to comply?
         6. What other behaviors/reactions did you notice?
   5. Analyze your experiences and how the results did and did not align with your expectations and the information you have studied on conformity and compliance.
   6. Evaluate your experiment and determine the strength of compliance and conformity. What factors would increase compliance and conformity? What factors would reduce compliance and conformity?
