5th Semester B. Tech. (Sessional-V) Sub: Water Resources Design (CE-3185) The length of the distribution canal of an irrigation project is 3 km and has a gross command area of 36,000 ha. The gross command area reduces by 12,000 ha at every 1 km length. The cultivable command area of the project is 80%. The intensity of irrigation during Kharif is 95% and during Rabi is 50%. Design the canal for each reach using the following data: Total loss below 3 km is 0.55 m/s, Canal conveyance efficiency is 90%, Kor Period for Rabi is 4 weeks, Kor Depth for Rabi is 15 cm, Kor Period for Khariff is 3 weeks, Kor depth for Kharif is 20 cm, Time Factor of the project is 0.80 and CVR=1.1 36,000ha 1st Reach (1km) 24,000ha 2nd Reach (1km) 3rd Reach (1km) 12,000ha For the 1st and last reach, design the canal using Kennedy's principle (B/D ratio 2, Kutter's Roughness 0.023 and canal with trapezoidal cross section having side slope of 1.5:1 (H:V)). For the middle reach, deign the canal using Kennedy's trial and error method (Trapezoidal with side slope 1.5:1 (H:V), channel is to be laid at a slope of 1 in 4000 and Kutter's Roughness 0.023).
