Consider the following 5 unrelated audit tests which an auditor performed in conjunction with the examination of the financial statements of a client whose fiscal year ended December 31,2023.
Required:
For each audit test, identify the management assertion, the type of evidence, the quality of evidence (that is, high, medium or low), and provide a rationale for your choice. Assume the year end date is December 31,2023.
A. Send letters to several vendors, including a few for which the recorded accounts payable balance is zero, requesting them to inform us of their balance due from 123 Company.
B. Attend the year-end inventory count. While walking around look for any items that may have been missed during the count. For example, items located on top shelves
C. Obtain contract terms for a vendor to determine when the company has fulfilled its obligation and compare to what has been recorded in the general ledger
D. Obtain a list of expenditures relating to what is considered to be server hardware and development costs. After selecting a sample of expenditures, discuss with management whether the amounts have been properly recorded in the financial statements.
E. Compare year over year changes to key accounts and flag accounts that have changed by more or less than 10%.
