Cost accounting

A company went through a huge recall in September of last year for king crab (a seafood delicacy. They had to have any king crab that was shipped during a specific time period and from specific lots sent back to the processing facility. Any customers who received this particular shipment of crab were credited. The question is, would this type of situation be considered as abnormal spoilage? And how should the costs be recognized?
