When reading this chapter, a major, local and international obstacle that I see when implementing an EHR is terminology harmonization. Interoperability is the goal of an EHR system, "the ability of health information systems to work together within and across organizational boundaries in order to advance the effective delivery of health care individuals." A major concern that arises is how to communicate and exchange data collected through various clinical practices across settings while preserving terminology related standards. Different facilities whether it be local or international may use different terminology for certain issues. Standardized terminologies for Rx, clinical terms, reimbursements/billing along with clinical care; diagnoses, interventions evaluations, assessments and so forth I feel is an obstacle when it comes to EHRs.
