The aim is to eliminate poverty and reduce inequality by building an inclusive economy. To fulfil these aims, faster and more inclusive economic growth must be achieved while providing more opportunities to all people of the country. Put differently, to achieve higher levels of employment, we need both economic growth and increased labour- absorption capacity in South Africa. Persistently high levels of unemployment is one of the key defining features of the South African economy. It is not a new phenomenon. South Africa's unemployment rate is of the highest in the world, with youth unemployment approximately twice the national average and the highest of all countries in the world. Around the world, an important social and economic indicator is the number of persons who are unemployed. It is often viewed as a measure of the health of an economy. All else equal, the higher the rate of unemployment, the less healthy an economy is deemed to be. Therefore, it is important to understand what the unemployment rate is measuring, and the definition and measurement of the key components within the indicator. Against this backdrop and using the data provided in the Essay.xlxs file, write an essay that investigates unemployment, including youth unemployment in South Africa.
