In order to be successful in any endeavor we must be enthusiastic and passionate about what we are doing. This is true in sports, teaching,indeed any profession or activity you want to name. If we are going to inspire the people that we work with, to become excited about the important work they perform, we need to maintain our enthusiasm. People want to be around and affiliate themselves with enthusiastic and passionate individuals. The commitment we make to our work is recognized by those around us and you will be judged by what the perception of that commitment is, by your residents, families, and staff.

You will use various types of leadership styles that will depend on the situation. As you become more experienced you will become better at the "art" of managing and will know when to use autocratic, democratic, and participative styles of leadership. One possible overall style of leadership would be considered participative, welcoming input from all levels of the organization in terms of identifying and suggesting possible solutions to various problems in the facility. However most administrators will use all styles of leadership throughout the course of a day in our facility.

Part of leadership includes training your staff to be caring professionals who know what to do in almost any situation. Thinking about these leadership concepts as well as information provided in the Staffing, Directing, Comparing, Innovating, & Marketing activity, use Case Study 4 - Mrs. Donnelly "Suspended" and answer the questions at the end in a 1 - 2 page paper. How could you as an administrator have used your leadership traits to help make sure your staff were trained to handle such a situation?
