TEXT: Modern Methods for Quality Control and Improvement by Wadsworth 2n edition 9781118431344 Assignment Objectives Calculate the costs associated with quality. Please, answer and explain (based from examples below; highlighted in BLUE) 1) How will accomplishing these objectives support your success in management? 2) What risks or challenges might a manager encounter if he or she has not mastered these objectives? Explain. Example 1 Accomplishing and expanding on the course objectives will support my managerial and leadership success. The specific objectives that I am focusing on for the purpose of this discussion are: Apply critical thinking skills to analyze business situations. Recognize situations that present potential ethical and legal issues, and develop solutions for those issues. Appropriately use effective communication techniques. Construct a process improvement by mapping, analyzing, and redesigning the process. As leaders, we are to correspond to situations with ethical behavior. Leaders develop essential abilities to endure tough circumstances. An analysis of business situations may result in different outcomes, depending on the decision maker. A leader with a duty to the company is not released from his moral obligation to the employee. Ethical choices in business may be complex or even difficult at times, but an organization that is committed to ethical leadership will show moral responsibility in all of these areas. I will use the structured problem solving approaches of Quality Management & Continuous Improvement to foster my learning, collaboration, and personal development. These in-depth problem-solving process steers work team toward the root causes of routine problems. It provides managers with forms of strategic control that enables the organization to quickly and proactively respond to developments that will have an effect on the success of the organization. It ensures that business transformations are continually reviewed to improve its policies, procedures, products and services to meet compliance, by collecting feedback from customers, stakeholder, program participants, etc., then analyzing the data and acting on any opportunities for improvement or enhancement. Comments from the Professor re: above discussion Welcome to class. I appreciate your comments which I thought were insightful with several good applications. I will mention that the root causes of many quality problems are not easy to spot. That is why benchmarking is so important. Keep up the good work. Example Number 2 There are eight principles of quality management: customer-focused organisation - organisations depend on their customers and therefore should understand current and future customer needs, meet customer requirements and strive to exceed customer expectations leadership - leaders establish unity of purpose, direction and the internal environment of the organisation. They create the environment in which people can become fully involved in achieving the organisation's objectives involvement of people - people at all levels are the essence of an organisation and their full involvement enables their abilities to be used for the organisation's benefit process approach - a desired result is achieved more efficiently when related resources and activities are managed as a process system approach to management - identifying, understanding and managing a system of interrelated processes for a given objective contributes to the effectiveness and efficiency of the organisation continual improvement - continual improvement is a permanent objective of an organisation factual approach to decision making - effective decisions are based on the logical and intuitive analysis of data and information mutually beneficial supplier relationships - mutually beneficial relationships between the organisation and its suppliers enhance the ability of both organisations to create value https://www.google.com.br/search? newwindow=1&site=&source=hp&q=total+quality+management&oq=total+quali&gs_l=hp.3.0.0 i22i30l10.1498.9127.0.11053.20.17.0.3.3.0.660.4034.0j1j3j3j2j2.11.0....0...1c.1.64.hp..7.12.3594. 0.BRDxp2sDhvU Comments from the Professor re: above discussion. Welcome to class. Thank you for your contribution to our discussion. I like the way you took each separate objective and commented on each one. Keep up the good work. Example Number 3 By accomplishing these objectives you will generate productive success as a manager. Being in management critical thinking is a must because it allows manager's to conduct critical analysis of day to day situations and can help a company with growth produce positive net present value. When you accomplish both TQM and Six Sigma it enhances your quality of products as well as services. You will learn how to reduce defective products or poor service in an organization, and improve customer satisfaction. For example with both approaches they will help you to analyze a large portion of the business and identifying problems that might not appear connected at first sight and help you review the culture that might be leading to quality issues. http://smallbusiness.chron.com/differences-between-tqm-six-sigma-41862.html Comments from the Instructor: Welcome to class. Thank you for your contribution to our discussion. I like the way you took each separate objective and commented on each one. Keep up the good work. Example Number 4 The process to control quality helps companies meet customer needs and create higher standards in production. Companies that have better quality control creates fewer defects and achieve better quality to save money or time loss. Development of improved leadership creates continuous improvement in the process of making products with engaging partners using TQM processes. To improve the problem customer, feedback is needed to see the problem or problems for analysis to make improvements. Next the evaluation process is needed to create reporting to create changes. The process of making a specific system, to create different techniques to reduce or eliminate defects. Using Six Sigma controls variations that are apparent. The processes of the output are controlled to six standard deviations. The deviations must be less than 1 and 100 as a goal as a standard to find the assigned variations. After the variations are found the causes can be identified and new recommendations can be processed as solutions to eliminate variations. Random Variation is hard to control or corrected because the process can change every cycle. To create a better way control processes is to have a standard process control for the output as a target center with an acceptable variation of upper and lower limit tolerations. The output is estimated to the mean and the mean plus the variation is the standard deviation of the mean. Comment from the Professor: Welcome to class. I appreciate your comments which I thought were insightful with several good applications. Keep up the good work. Example Number 5 As I completed the milestone in the intellipath I became kind of close to one of the nodes (the PDCA cycle) which to me is basically some very informative knowledge to have while in the work force. The PDCA is the Plan, do, Check and Act process in feel should be done every where. This cycle is considered to improve in a method that is related to total quality management, being that Edward Deming create the central tenents of this idea, it became effective in many ways. this cycle can be used in the Six Sigma process as well. Some of the foundations of this cycle exist with some principles of quality management which is customer satisfaction, management by fact and respect for others. I am sure organizations that deal with the public domain would want a customer to satisfied cause they might return for more business and brming more customers, so yes customer satisfaction is important. The Management by fact plays a huge part in decision making and organizing the plans of the business whether it is privately owned or returning a department. Now the respect for people to me plays a huge part, we all should resepect everybody whether in business or not, being in the work environment all employees have to work together as a team and have total resepct for each other for the organization as a whole. Running head: MODERN METHODS OF QULAITY CONTROL AND IMRPOVEMENT 1 By achieving various objectives in the quality management and continuous improvement, my success in management will be supported. By using critical and creative thinking skills, a leader in management will be able to analyze issues critically and make a sound decision. (Wadsworth, Stephens & Godfrey, 2002). Creative thinking helps leaders in management development and innovate new ways of production as well as managing his or her staff. Effective communication skills help leaders to have effective communication with the staff and delegate duties. The management attains respect by communicating effectively to the staff. Furthermore, the leaders will be in a position to present their requirements and ideas to the senior management and express their options to improve the management of the organization (Wadsworth, Stephens & Godfrey, 2002). Moreover, by recognizing situations that present ethical and legal, and development issues, the management will now focus on the growth of the company. Failure of the management to master the objectives, the company will experience a lot of problems in leadership and development. The collapse of the organization may be caused by the failure to critical analyze a situation before making major decision (Wadsworth, Stephens & Godfrey, 2002). Also, lack of appropriate communication techniques will affect communication between the staff and the management leading to them having a strained relationship. Also, duties and roles will not be delegated appropriately. Consequently, failure to recognize situations that present potential ethical and legal issues and develop solutions for them will lead to the development of scandals in the organization and later collapse or closure (Wadsworth, Stephens & Godfrey, 2002) Modern methods of quality control and improvement 2 References Wadsworth, H.
