CoursHeroTranscribedText: The ceiling of an ice-skating rink must have specic conditions, otherwise, condensation may occur on the ceiling, and water may drip onto the ice, causing bumps on the skating surface. Condensation will occur on the ceiling when its surface temperature drops below the dew point of the rink air. Your assignment is to perform an analysis to determine the effect of the ceiling emissivity on the ceiling temperature, and hence the propensity for condensation. The rink has a diameter of 50 m and a height of 10 m. The temperatures of the walls and ice are 18C and -6C, respectively. The rink air temperature is at 18C and with convection coefcient of 4 W/mzK. The thickness and thermal conductivity of the ceiling insulation are 0.25 m and 0.038 W/mK, respectively, and the temperature of the outdoor air is -6C. Assume that the ceiling is a gray diffuse surface and that the walls and ice may be approximated as blackbodies. The flat ceiling could have an emissivity of 0.04 (highly reective panels) or 0.94 (painted panels). (a) What is the ceiling temperature when using reflective panels? And when using painted panels? Write an energy balance equation. (b) If the relative humidity of the rink air is 70%, will condensation occur for either or both of the emissivities? Use the Psychometric Chart to find the dew point temperature
