Cove or Conference?
You work in the Public Relations department of the Southern Saskatchewan Petroleum Institute (SSPI). SSPI has paid your expenses to attend a business conference in Halifax where you are representing the company. Your participation includes leading a one-hour seminar in public relations issues for Canadian petroleum companies. You spent one full weekend preparing your materials and making sure that you would represent your company in the very best way possible.
Then you travelled to Halifax after working hours on a Tuesday evening. Your presentation was held on the first day of the two-day conference. You performed in an excellent fashion, and you know that positive reports will get back to your management team in Regina.
You are expected to attend other people's seminars on the second daybut in your judgment, there appears to be nothing of interest for SSPI. However, there is a full-day tour available from the hotel lobby that takes tourists to Peggy's Cove and to other tourist points in Halifax. You have never been to Halifax and have always wanted to see Peggy's Cove. You feel you "deserve" the time off in lieu of all the personal time you put into preparation for the conference. Instead of attending the second-day seminars, you board the tourist bus. Edward Graham, a business associate, sees you leaving on the bus.
