COVID-19 pandemic has immensely affected our economy and other economies around the world. Some industries/markets got hit harder than the others, but in general, all markets and all economies around the world are declining due to the outbreak of this deadly virus. Some industries are going under huge structural changes due to the economic shutdown in our country, and other countries in the world. For this project, In groups of 2, students will pick an industry/market in the US such as; airline, tourism, hospitality, retail, restaurant, healthcare, education, housing, automobile, food, produce, freelancing/contracting, ... and study the effects of this pandemic on that industry.

Your study should be comprehensive and should try to answer these questions:

1- How has this pandemic shifted the demand and supply in the market/industry, and changed the equilibrium price and equilibrium quantity in the market?

2- How do changes in this market/industry impact the rest of the economy such as: other markets (like labor market, retail market, housing market, healthcare market, oil market, ...), unemployment, inflation, and export/import?

3- What are some of the long-term issues caused by this pandemic on this market/industry?

4- How these long-term issues will affect other parts of the economy?

5- What could this market/industry do to overcome this disruption, and rebound faster when this pandemic is over? (Possible investment, technology, innovations, solutions, change of structure, ...)

6- Will the economic shutdown cause by this pandemic possibly change the shape and structure of this market/industry for the years to come?

For this project, teams will write up a research paper 5-7 pages (APA format), and present at the end of the term. Power point presentations are 5-10 minutes via Zoom. Groups could alternatively record their presentations and submit the paper and the power point presentation both on Canvas prior to the due date.
