CPEG is a large corporation which operates as a public utility company. Its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange. It supplies natural gas and electricity to residents in a number of states, and at present, earns 89% of its revenue from electricity and 11% from natural gas. The consensus view of financial analysts is that the company is in good financial condition, but not great. In recent years, earnings per share have fallen due to regulatory restrictions, as well as company write-offs for certain operations. The fall in earnings has also led the company to lower its once very attractive dividend. During the time of the company's financial decline, it has been following a Corporate Social Responsibility program. The intent of the program was to help customers who are unable to pay their utility bills, but not just bills due to CPEG. The program works with various federal and state agencies to help customers in financial difficulties. To date, it has assisted over 75,000 people, and it is partially funded by voluntary contributions from CPEG customers. The CPEG program has grown over time, such that the company now spends about half a million dollars on salary and benefits
