For example, the Draeger Fabius Tiro anesthesia machine has a one-year, two-year, and three-year replacement part kit. The BMET must replace the parts to ensure equipment functionality and patient safety. These parts must be kept in stock and inventory accordingly, with expiration dates, maintenance plans, and cost in mind. During my recent deployment, I encountered a shop inventory room with 3-year replacement kits that had all expired. This was a waste of cost and time as the person who ordered the parts initially did not think ahead. From this experience, I learned how important creating a maintenance plan is and how important communication between the BMET and parts clerk is.
