Create a dataset

Please provide a Step by Step process with a Description on top of each screenshot.

Everything in information technology is based on data. The mainframe has an extremely efficient way to manage data, and this lab will introduce you to the creation of data sets.

Please make sure you do Part I, Part II, and Part 3.

Note: In the VOLUME SERIAL FIELD, LEAVE IT BLANK. This will avoid out of space errors.

Use these parameters:

Complete the indicated fields and press Enter:

Space Units = TRKS

Primary quantity = 10

Secondary quantity = 5

Directory blocks = 10

Record format = FB

Record length = 80

Block size = 0 (this tells z/OS to select an optimum value)

Data set type = PDS

Part II Creating a Member

Provide Screenshots and explanations over each screenshot.

When you get to this point you should have already created your member for PDS.

Please make sure you create your member. If you did not create a member you will not be able to open the Member by typing M.

Remember PDS has to have a member. A member is considered to be a File. Please make sure your file has at least 10 lines of Data. For Example: APPLE ARE GREAT
