Unions work to improve the conditions of the work environment as well as areas for improvement such as: higher wages, and better benefits. These improvements are typically achieved through bargaining with the leadership of companies. While I have not had personal experience with unions, I do agree with the concept. Especially in nursing where there are so many nurses leaving the bedside as well as the field in general it is time to advocate for better benefits for our nurses, and healthcare workers in general.
