Personalities in the workplace can often be a difficult subject. You will often have people with disordered personalities working, but that does not mean that this is bad for them in the workplace. There are some cases in which having a disordered personality can work in ones favor. Tryer (2014) states that an employee with personality disorder may work better in solitude than with others. Not every person in the workplace will have such problems. It has been said that you need to understand the person and their disorders and be able to put them in a job that suits them in their mental state. There may be jobs that someone does not want to do because of the solitude, but someone with a disordered personality may be perfect for the job and thrive. This is one of those cases where a disordered personality will not effect how they are in the workplace. We can also look at the dark triad of traits, narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. Studies have shown that narcissism has positive implications on one's work. (Szab et al 2022). These people become more ambitious because they need the approval and admiration for the work they are doing. Putting them in a place of power or supervision would ultimately increase their work morale. Szab et al (2022) states " Based on the available evidence, we expected work attitudes and work-related motivation to be associated positively with narcissism and negatively with psychopathy." This shows that there are plenty of contexts in which someone with a disordered personality will be useful in the workplace, over being negatively effected.
