Virgil Abloh held the roles of creative director of Louis Vuitton, founder of the luxury fashion brand OFF-WHITE, creative consultant for Kayne West, and art director for multiple high-profile hip-hop albums and contemporary artists. Abloh was debatably one of the most influential creative minds of the 21st century, despite fighting a rare form of heart cancer under the radar for the last two years of his life. Abloh earned an undergraduate degree in civil engineering and a master's degree in architecture. While pursuing his graduate degree, he had a side job designing t-shirts for a Chicago-based screen-printing company, which led to a meeting with Kanye West's manager, John Monopoly. After graduating, Virgil became the creative director of DONDA, West's creative agency. Together, the duo learned the ropes of the fashion industry, raising eyebrows in the luxury fashion world with the introduction of their divergent streetwear line that was unlike anything anyone had seen before. Leveraging the attention, he was getting from the fashion industry, Abloh would go on to create the streetwear and art brand OFFWHITE in 2013. And through his business ventures, he successfully collaborated with 17 high-end fashion brands, a champagne label, music and visual artists, IKEA, Evian water, McDonald's, the NYC Ballet, and more. When creatives make a name for themselves and surround themselves with the right network, nothing is out of bounds. Every brand was interested in collaborating with Abloh during the peak of his career because anything he made was certain to be a commercial success. Despite all his success and his growing influence and power in the fashion world, his work ethic, infinite curiosity, and optimism never wavered. Abloh never rested on his laurels, and his desire to grow professionally never waned. This is what separated him from many other creatives of our time-he never lost his hunger for greatness or his control of the process. His abilities caught the attention of luxury fashion brand Louis Vuitton, who named him their menswear creative director in 2018. Virgil Abloh was diagnosed with a rare form of heart cancer in 2019, which he never disclosed until his inevitable death on November 28, 2021.
