Crystal Palace park authority runs a large outdoor festival which has live music, displays of farm animals as well as food and drink stalls. The festival is separated off from the rest of the park with high metal fences. A sign at the entrance of the festival warns people to follow instructions in the event of an emergency evacuation of the festival site and to not under any circumstances attempt to climb the fences. As well as displays of sheep dog trials, there is also a display of wild boar and bulls. All animal displays are separated from the public by a fence and there are signs prohibiting entry to the display pens or interference with the animals.

Scott and Jason are at the festival with Bea and Charlotte. Scott and Jason have been going out for three years and moved in together six months ago. Bea and Charlotte have been dating for nine months. All of them are quite drunk before they head off to see the animals. Jason wants to get a photo of him hugging a wild boar, so he jumps the fence. When a member of festival staff yells that this is prohibited, Jason yells back 'it's alright mate I'll be quick'. Jason is photographed by Scott hugging a boar. But the boar is distressed and bolts suddenly knocking Jason over. Other boars in the pen start to run trampling Jason. They collide into the side of their enclosure which has not been properly built by the festival organisers and stampede out into the crowd.

The festival organisers order an immediate evacuation. In the chaos, Bea and Charlotte are separated. Charlotte, who is scared, tries to climb the fence. She gets halfway up it then falls off breaking her leg. While she is lying injured on the ground, she is trampled by a boar breaking her other leg. Bea is anxious about what has happened to Charlotte and three hours later gets a call asking her to come to the hospital. When she arrives at the hospital, she sees Charlotte heavily injured and covered with mud. Bea is initially fine but 2 months later suffers a nervous breakdown and is diagnosed with PTSD. Jason is eventually rescued; he is unconscious and in a coma from his injuries and requires three months of treatment. Scott stays by his side but after two months starts crying uncontrollably saying he can't take the sight of Jason in the hospital any longer.
