Cultural awareness and indeed, cultural literacy, informs one's decision as to what extent you follow local practices and culture. For certain more mundane activities the answer is obvious, for instance, when visiting the UK, you will drive on the left side of the road. In general, based on your own background also, local practices can be evaluated on a scale that runs from "liberating" to "not right." Some customs may even violate home country moral standards or laws. What happens if your global competitors localize their practices, leaving their (moral) judgment at home? Do you hire an intermediary to deal with certain aspects of conducting business in a certain market? What do you think? Start by answering these two related questions, and let the discussion start from there.

1. Are all actions that conform to local customs mortally defensible? Explain your reasoning.
2. If the competitive environment includes legally marginal activities, and you can distance yourself from those activities, should you follow them in order to compete successfully? Note: be realistic in your answer to this question 2, just virtue signaling is cute, but not necessarily productive in resolving global business challenges from an entrepreneurial perspective.
