There are many weapons and tactics at the disposal of intruders. Attackers can use malicious software, remote access tools, spoofed emails, distributed denial of service attacks, social engineering, phishing, and SQL injection.
Phishing is a well known tactic that depends upon victims having low levels of cyber awareness and security. Attackers can gain credentials and engage in many methods of gaining personal information to their advantage. To protect our networks we can use defensive tools such as VPN's, which hide our IP addresses. Port scanners can scan ports to see what is open for exploitation. Firewalls are used to filter outgoing and incoming traffic, and can notify you when a threat has been detected.
The future of cyber warfare is going to add more dynamics to the state of war. The world already uses conventional warfare which mostly consists of troops on the ground, missiles/rockets, and espionage. Future wars will have more cyber weapons involved alongside conventional force.
