Damilo negligently drove his car in the rain and went through a set of red traffic lights. Celine, who was carefully riding her bicycle along the road at the time, had to swerve to avoid Damilo's car and crashed her bicycle into a nearby stationary car. As a result, Celine suffered cuts to her face and arms; she also suffered from a serious head injury, which she could have avoided if she had worn a cycle helmet.

At the time of the accident, Celine was aged 35 and was employed as an architect. She was shortly expected to be promoted to a senior architect in the firm, but as a result of her injuries she will now be unable to work again in any capacity. Celine will have undergo a number of painful operations on her face and arms in the course of the next year. As a further result of the accident, Celine is very embarrassed to leave the house due to her facial scars.

The doctors have advised Celine that, as a result of her injuries, she will be unable to engage in her favourite hobby of tennis and that her life expectancy has been reduced to 10 years from the date of the accident. Celine is married with two young children and is very concerned as to her family's future. Celine's husband, Gregory, has given up his job as a bank manager to care for Celine.

On the basis of the above facts, explain and apply the principles that will be used to calculate the compensation payable by Damilo.
