Dash or Wedge?
Okay so ive been given a 3-D photo of a molecule. However, I'm struggling to figure out the stereochemistry if it.
I have a Methyl group and a Hydrogen attached to a carbon, but i dont know which will be a dash and which will be a wedge.
This is a crucial step, because I will then have to determine R and S configuration. If I'm not mistaken how I attach them will determine that.
I feel as though interpretation of the 3-D photo is subjective and how one views it determines ones judgement of the wedge and dash assigning.
I will attach a photo of the 3-D problem in question, a sketch done by my professor himself, and a sketch done by me challenging his sketch.
What I want to know is if there is a right or wrong answer when it comes to the dash and wedge bonds, and if there is a way to determine this accurately for future problems.
