Data Life Cycle and Information Continuum

Overview:

There are two main parts of the Unit: Data Life Cycle (DLC) and the Information Continuum. The first, the Data Life Cycle, is heavily based on Information Technology and deals with the collection, usability, and disposal of data, with varying steps in between. For student career paths that will take them into Project Management or IT, this will be an essential part of planning. For those who remain on the business side, knowledge of the DLC will be vital in forming understanding and leadership with multidepartment teams. The second part of the Unit covering the Information Continuum will guide you through different levels of data insight and their importance. As resources are finite (time, money, personnel, etc.), it is important to understand the uses of each of the levels in the continuum. Moving up the continuum can lead to wasted resources, but remaining too low can underutilize your data.

Pick a segment of the Information Continuum: what are some of the ways you would mitigate the challenges listed in this chapter of its implementation and use?
