The test is called BASE (Belief Assessment of Spiritual Essentials) it is fairly new, and has been in existence for three years, and in this length of it has been given to freshman. The study revealed that majority of the freshman believed that there is no need for a Savior. They feel that if they are good people toward others, then there is no need for God. A less large portion of freshmen couldn't give a definition of new birth. This could explain why some people think they a Savior won't be beneficial in their lives. The feel that all they must do is die and God will correct all their sin past sins and mistakes. 54% of freshman students feel that they don't have to have faith for salvation, believing that personality will get you them into the gate of heaven, rather than what the Bible has written in it and what the church has taught. Not believing that faith in Jesus Christ is necessary for salvation, and a lack of understanding that Jesus rose from the dead. \" Is there a relationship between frequency of church attendance and the level of understanding of basic Christian doctrine?\" A null hypothesis for the study would show being present in church services, has no positive outcome on understanding the basic Christian doctrine on college freshman. A research hypothesis could be, the freshmen that went to church often understood the Christian Doctrine more than those who do not attend church on a regular basis. \"Our freshmen scored a 67 percent on the BASE exam, a failing grade\" (Quarles, 2011). Although, the freshmen did receive a failing grade I think the percentage would be lower if the students did not attend church at all. The results of a study might show that individuals who are in regular attendance at church has more knowledge and understanding of the Christian doctrine, but not fully understand it. The study will have significant results with being in church, and having those doctrines broken down. Anyone can read a book, but it does not mean one will understand it.
