Databases are part of a larger picture of what is called information system. Database designs that fail to acknowledge this fact are unlikely to be successful. Database designers must recognize that the database is a critical means to an end, and not an end in itself. Managers want the database to serve their management needs and help them to accomplish their duties and responsibilities. But too many databases seem to force managers to change their routines to fit the database requirements. Coronel, Morris & Rob (2013).
