Dave Packet is a success. From humble beginnings in the 1980s, Dave Packet built an international plastics empire growing financially over a thirty-year period. Deal of the Century In January 2023, Packet got the call he had long been dreaming of from his long-term client Alessandro DuBois. Until recently, Dubois was the owner of a successful electronics parts manufacturer based in Turin, Italy. Yet the combination of the Covid pandemic and increased competition from producers from Asia has put his company on the edge of bankruptcy. Unable to secure finance from the bank and under pressure from creditors, DuBois realized that his only remaining option was to sell his beloved collection of sports cars. A modest collection of 12 exotic cars he had spent years bringing together and carefully restoring, DuBois doted over his Ferraris and Maseratis. Calling Packet was a painful prospect, but selling the entire collection all together would be quick and would mean an instant cash injection allowing him to hopefully save his business. Packet wanted the cars. And DuBois knew that by selling to Packet, the cars would be going to a good home. Packet drooled over the cars when he visited the Dubois garage in the picturesque village of Mozzio in Northern Italy. Packet would be a careful owner. He had a large climate-controlled garage in Mandurah, and the weather and roads in Western Australia would be generally pretty kind to old cars. So a deal was struck and Packet gladly wired the money to DuBois. Cash in advance. But what choice did he have? If he negotiated too hard, he risked annoying DuBois and losing the whole collection to another collector. This was an all-or-nothing deal. But now he faces a big challenge. For at the moment, the collection remains parked in the DuBois garage in Mozzio, Italy. What to do? How can he possibly get the cars safely across the planet to Mandurah in Western Australia? To add to Packet's worries, he just learned that Australian customs officials now pay close attention to asbestos in old car parts. So to remove any traces of this materials from each car, it will be necessary to transport them all to an asbestos removal specialist Gloucestershire, UK to prepare them for their journey to Australia. The removal specialist is currently extremely busy and can only can only do the work from 20th May to 20th June, 2023. During this time, storage facilities will be needed for the car collection as each vehicle is stripped down and prepared for export. A further issue that will need to be addressed relates to new laws in Australia regarding the importation of classic cars. It seems that official import approval will be needed for each car. So what sounded to Packet at first like a great deal is now starting to feel like a serious problem. Money and time are not the problems here (though Packet wants his cars as soon as possible). What is needed is a system that will get the cars down the Italian mountain road and all the way to Mandurah, undamaged.
