Example definition of strategy - 

It is the art of gaining advantage and delivering success in an uncertain future.

This definition may perhaps seem somewhat vague, but that is by design. 

Strategy can be applied to many goals and many timelines, so it would be inappropriate to associate all

strategies with a specific type of goal, or to define strategy as a short or long term concept.

There are strategies for the long term goals of nations, just as there are strategies for the short

term goals of individuals. Everywhere in between there are companies and teams developing

and executing their own strategies over all types of timespans.

It is also important to note that strategy is an art more so than a science, because of the

uncertainty (or uncertain future) in which it exists. There are no definite or perfectly

predictable results in the environment in which strategies are created, therefore it is necessary

for the strategist to be adaptable and, in some cases, unpredictable.
