Dekker is a very ambitious sales manager at UltimaFire, a military and defence company in Ottawa, Ontario. Dekker is aware that the director of operations position is now open, and that he is in the running for the promotion. However, the competition is stiff with three other operations managers, and so Dekker wants to go above and beyond in order to impress the Vice-President of Operations at UltimaFire- the person who will be making the promotion decision for director of operations. Dekker knows that the Vice-President of Operations, Manuela Legrand, is a big fan of teppanyaki cuisine, where a chef cooks Japanese cuisine right in front of the customer. Dekker does some research online, finding many teppanyaki chefs who are available for hire. He decides to hire one of Toronto's best teppanyaki chefs, Yoshihide Suga, to come to Dekker's home and prepare a live dinner on Friday, December 18, 2020 for him. Yoshihide Suga asks if there is a special occasion, and Dekker says it is just a nice Friday dinner treat. Dekker invites Manuela to the dinner, and she is excited. On Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 9pm, however, Yoshihide Sugha phones Dekker and cancels the dinner without giving a reason. Dekker is devastated. He calls Manuela and lets her know dinner is canceled. The following week, Dekker learns that he does not get the promotion to director of sales at UltimaFire. He is devastated and blames Yoshihide Suga for it. Dekker starts a lawsuit against Yoshihide Suga for breach of contract, and sues for the loss of his future income as director of sales, and asks for an injunction forcing Yoshihide Suga to come to his home to prepare a teppanyaki meal for him and Manuela - as Dekker hopes that he will have a second chance to impress Manuela and perhaps change her mind.
