He explains the values leaders should live by to help guide them through their decisions: honesty, integrity, respect, courage, openness, diversity, and balance. In order to lead and be a great leader, you have to live by and teach your values while allowing them to guide every decision you make (Cockerell, 2008). There will always be those employees and leaders who are "good at their job" or have an amazing background and are very skillful, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are fit for the job. Character is a trait that gives individuals morals and ethical strength (Cockerell, 2008). Leaders hold a job role that is challenged with many difficult daily decisions. In a nursing position, our leaders, such as our charge nurses and nurse managers, are supposed to lead by example and display their values through their actions and words. I have found that leaders who positively influence their employees or teams create a safer and happier workplace. At the end of the day, anyone who does not have a proper work
