5.1. Tricycle for Mobility Purposes From a mechanical design perspective, there are many different registered patents for tricycle apparatus used for mobility purposes. While not all the patents can be listed in the report, one example can be Patent ID US3836177A [5] from September 1974 shown in figure I below. Figure It Tricycle Patent from 1974 When our product is fixed to the wheelchair as a mobility device, the assembly will operate similar to a tricycle, and hence the mechanism of a tricycle should be studied for the design of our prototype. 5.2, Stationary bicycle for exercising purposes The patent below can be considered very relevant to our product since it also helps disabled people exercise their legs using force from their hands. While this design enables lateral movement of the user's legs, our product provides linear to and fro movement to the legs in order to train other muscles. Additionally, the advantage of our product compared to this patent is that it can additionally operate as a tricycle for mobility purposes, with the hand support being able to move in different directions (left and right). Figure 2 below shows the patent design that inspired our product. Its ID is US4869494A [6]. and dates from September 1989
