Description of the process: Hydrogen production One of the main technologies that are used today to produce hydrogen is steam reforming (SR). A simplified description of the SR process listing the various units used is given below: - Natural gas (CH4) at ambient pressure and temperature enters the desulfuriozation unit to remove sulfur then it enters a fixed bed reactor. The reaction of CH4 and steam is usually carried out at temperature range of 500-900 C (fuel is added into the reactor to increase the temperature) and pressure of 20 bar in the present of Ni-based catalyst to produce carbon monoxide and hydrogen, according to the reaction: CH4+H2OCO+3H2. The hot gas leaving the reactor contains mainly H2,CO2CO2,CH4, and H2O is used in the steam generator to produce steam. The steam generator takes water and hot gases leaving the reactor to produce steam that is feed to the reactor. The exit stream from the steam generator enters a fixed bed reactor that convert carbon monoxide with the steam present into additional hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The gases exiting the reactor enters gas purification unit to separate hydrogen from other gases. Part of other gases a recycled back to the 1st reactor by combing it with the natural gas exiting the desulfurization unit. Questions: 4. Corrosion is one of the most important challenges facing petroleum refineries. It has received wide attention in recent decades due to the continued dependence of the global economy on industries based on oil and natural gas. Write a short essay in your own words (about 200 words) about one of the corrosion problems in the refining operations highlighting the sources of the corrosion problem and the current mitigations approaches used to solve it. (Use at least 3 references) (15 points) 5. Discuss the importance of hydrogen in our life. (Use at least 3 references) (8 points) 6. What are other industrial methods used to produce hydrogen? (Use at least 1 reference) (7 points)
