Developing and Justifying Your Budget One of the final steps to completing a grant is adding a budget and a budget justification. These two sections serve as a detailed list of predicted expenditures that would be incurred by your study, and the rationale for each item. By applying the information presented in Units 8 and 9, create a 1-page budget for your study, and a 1-page justification. Your budget should consist of the following direct and indirect costs (where applicable- please also refer to the rubric): Personnel Effort Cost Sharing Fringe Benefits Consultants Subcontractors/Consortium Agreements Equipment Travel Supplies Patient Care Costs F&A Costs (Overhead, Electricity, etc.) Keep in mind that only costs that are deemed reasonable, allowable and allocable may be added to the budget. The budget narrative, or justification provides you the opportunity to explain how each expense is essential to the success of your study. By following the prescribed formatting outlined in Unit 9, create your own 1-page budget justification. Refer to the required readings for recommended formatting of the 2 documents.
