Mental Health Training for Police Officers The key personnel for the initiative include mental health professionals, law enforcement professional trainer, legal Advisor, and crisis intervention. Key Personnel/ stakeholders/ agency partners Mental Health Professional- Provide the necessary expertise and knowledge about mental health issues. He/ she will design the training course and provide direct training that involves understanding mental health. Law Enforcement Professional Trainers- Will be in charge of the training program. He/ she is a police officer who has received specialized training in dealing with mental health crises. Legal Advisors- Provide Legal and Ethical Considerations/ Legal rights of individuals with mental illness. Crisis Intervention- They provide our officers the necessary training, skill, and knowledge to handle mental heath crises effectively. The training includes understanding the nature of mental health issues. De-escalate techniques, and how to connect these people with the appropriate mental health service. Police Officers: They are the primary stakeholders since they are the ones who will be receiving the training. Their feedback and engagement are extremely important for the success of the initiative. I want to implement the Initiative at a city level. At the city level the program can be implemented with our local police department. By taking this action our local police officers can have the proper training to handle the situations involving people that suffer a mental health issue in or community. Agency Partners will include collaboration with the crisis interventions team, Local hospitals, and Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) as a grant provider. What equipment or assets might be required to implement the initiative? Some of the equipment or assets required to implement the initiative include a training facility and a location with training rooms with appropriate space for practice exercises. We will also need classroom materials, which include textbooks, handouts, and multimedia resources. Training materials will include training videos, simulation training software or equipment, media equipment, and simulation tools for role-playing. Simulation tools are extremely important for use in class because they can create realistic scenarios that our students can use to practice their skills in real-life situations
