DigiChefs is an online business selling a wide range of chef equipment. Its website is hosted on its own server, which is situated on their property in a building used to store the inventory that is ready for dispatching to customers. After a cyber-attack on 31 March 2016, the company's website was badly affected. When Siya from, IT, tried accessing the company's website, it was completely corrupted. A new website had to be urgently created. This took place between 1 April and 30 June 2016. The costs incurred during this period, all paid in cash, amounted to R414000 and included 5 separate payments, details of which are as follows: 1. Feasibility study to determine if the online business is still feasible: R69 000 The allocation of this cost to the two areas of the website is as follows: - Sales R46 000 - Marketing R23 000 2. Payment for the customer preference study, determining what customers prefer to see on the website: R80 500 The allocation of this cost to the two areas of the website is as follows: - Sales R34 500 - Marketing R46 000 3. Payment for the new licences to operate on the web: R23 000 The allocation of this cost to the two areas of the website is as follows: - Sales R11 500 - Marketing R11 500 4. Payment of fees to the computer specialists for designing the website: R218 500 The allocation of this cost to the two areas of the website is as follows: - Sales R115000 - Marketing R103 500 5. Payment of upgrade fees, this occurs on 31 December 2016 and is necessary every 6 months thereafter: R40000 The allocation of this cost to the two areas of the website is as follows: - Sales R20 000 - Marketing R20 000 The new website design will not be able to be sold on an open market, due to its unique nature. The cost of the new website is considered to be material. The new website was available for use from I July 2016.
