Digital measures impact healthcare and patient quality care because it lets the quality measures, such as HEDIS measures, become easily translated with the information needed. HEDIS is the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set. HEDIS works with quality measures to ensure the quality and proper care for patients within the healthcare organization. It measures and improves the medical care for patients though the measures that NCQA lays out to complete. According to the video, HEDIS helps the care for around 58% of the patients in the United States. The databases and digital information is a huge part of the healthcare quality today. Every day healthcare organizations are using databases to store, use or transfer medical records to insurances and other medical companies to ensure patients are getting the proper medical care. In my current job as a quality coordinator and ACO team lead, my department also works with HEDIS measures everyday. We get our information from NCQA and CMS, then we use the databases and EHRs to collect the data needed for each insurance to report on the quality measures needed. HEDIS and databases are crucial in my job and for the healthcare organization as a whole. Every year we have scores to meet in order to reflect our quality of care for our patients and in each measure. They are currently moving some of our quality HEDIS and ACO measures to digital claims, which is making it easier to report to the insurance companies and will change the way quality care is reported going forward. The future of the HEDIS and quality measures will become digital and this will influence how each healthcare organization reports and does their quality care for the patients.
