Questions Other countries are also taking legal steps against false statements, video manipulation, etc. In July 2019, Singapore put into law the Protection From Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act. Under the new law, the government can order content deemed false to be removed or can require that a correction be posted; it can also order Facebook, Google and other technology companies to block accounts or sites from their platforms and services. Those found guilty of violating the law can face hefty fines and prison terms ranging from 12 months to 10 years. Considering this international example, after watching the TedTalk, and reading the San Francisco Chronicle article on deepfakes in California being illegal, answer the following questions. 1. Are laws like those enacted in California and Singapore positive moves in the fight against misinformation? Explain. 2. Do you think they infringe on free speech rights? Whyor why not? 3.
