Discrete Event Simulation
Consider a simple gas station with a single set of pumps that can service cars are either side (i.e., right
side fueled and left side fueled) at the same time.
Cars queue up on the right or left of the pumps based on whether they are fueled from the right or the
left. The transaction is either cash or credit. There is a single attendant for all cash transactions, which
must be prepaid. [Specifically for cash transactions, the car pulls up to the pump before going to pay
and only pumps gas after paying.] The cash transaction with the attendant requires two minutes. No
interaction is required for credit transactions.
At the pump, cash transactions require one minute plus 15 seconds per gallon (4 gallons per minute or
minute per gallom) and credit transactions require two minutes plus 15 seconds per gallon (does not
include attendant time).
Car 0(left fueled) arrives at time 1 to purchase 16 gallons with cash. [1+16*(1/4) min]
Car 1(right fueled) arrives at time 2 to purchase 10 gallon with a credit card. [2+10*(1/4) min]
Car 2(right fueled) arrives at time 4 to purchase 12 gallons with cash. [1+12*(1/4) min]
Car 3(left fueled) arrives at time 6 to purchase 8 gallons with cash. [1+8*(1/4) min]
Car 4(left fueled) arrives at time 6.5 to purchase 16 gallons with a credit card. [2+16*(1/4) min]
Car 5(right fueled) arrives at time 8 to purchase 10 gallons with a credit card. [2+10*(1/4) min]
Car 6(left fueled) arrives at time 10 to purchase 8 gallons with cash. [1+8*(1/4) min]
Car 7(right fueled) arrives at time 12 to purchase 16 gallons with a credit card. [2+16*(1/4) min]
For coincidental events, always process the event associated with the lower numbered car first.
Show the time line of the simulation showing the discrete events for each of the cars. Use a
separate sheet of graph paper.
