actually do that time so Im gonna start from the bottom with option one would be two pieces of advice they can give to a human resources student thinking about becoming the nature of personal honestly I would make sure I pay attention really well in other classes as well not just the HR ones but to understand the HR function you have to understand the business as a whole so making sure you do really well in the accounting classes your finance classes you know and that would be definitely something that I would note and getting the practice to do simple things like present presentations and stuff like that you'd have to be pretty good at that as wellanother piece of advice would say it would be to sign up on all of the free events so ifyou can you see picture student member I believe taking their distance the student pose as well as starting started reading people adventure game and cheers and things like that and vice Provost for career it's proven to be running but I think more informationthe most challenging thing definitely is that sometimes HR has a plan sorry by the way my kids are in the background is that you might have an idea as a team for your HR or for your employees for example or the organization as a whole they're executives to understand that and align with you is probably sometimes the most toughest because they're not always easy celland that's again we're kind of the value propositions would come in with your presence and then something some real data points and again another thing you should get out is especially analyzing data excel that sort of thing and being able to recreate them is a great asset to have when you're there because a lot of the executives they want angible points and stuff to read off of to understand your value added proposition for whatever you're trying to propose or implementso l don't actually work at a company l mean I technically do or like an HR services firm and under that umbrella lm a consultant so we've got a range of people so we've go: like a learning development specialist Im the employment lawyer on retainer you know we've got let's see we've got a payroll person PCP I think the RCP PCP is their designation as well l've got one of those we've got a few people who are executive level as well and then a bunch of other people who are kind of generalists that can do pretty much most are things under the facet of you sureso again because I don't really have my own team per se because we're not lm not part of like an official like organization where like Im employed under because i work as a consultant technically there'd be no but in the whole team as it were we operate as kind of under a service umbretla and we've got sbout people here and there was either people or people are off but it didn't just specific people who are under this serious umbrelladefinitely wanted myself more as a generalist I haven't yet chosen kind of the faculty of HR or the facet of HR that I want to specialize in yeah I just feel there's so much more to learnum so with my own personal human resources philosophy is pretty much aligned with like or my organization that i kind of technically am working under and that is just do right by the people onestly, would like to say it's a perfect world and that I can do everything for the bottom life you know that's something that I've always been fascinated when it comes to when it comes to HR is just working with the people sorry again for my childand then my favorite HR experience honestly um that's tough I would say it was when I worked as pretty much an HR department of so it was like for a smaller company about employees and I did everything and that was kind of my favorite but the same time most difficultil think i skipped the question here but briefly describe your current role I kind of went to shat but Im working as a consultant so l've got a couple of projects right now one is the recruitment one for a client that Im doing a lot of recruiting for as well as developing their recruitment strategy another company that lm working with right now for a project is um lm working on their employee handbook as well as creating a lot of standard operating procedures for pretty much everything whether that be leave of absences or benefits or work permits and immigration as well as vacation policy things like that so they don't really have a lot of policies in place so not right now and that's a very kind of meaty kind of rote right nowOK going back to the kind of the beginning now because I'll start from the beginning I've been HR since was in went to HR just cause I have a business background like I went to school for sentence originally didn't really wapna do that for the rest of my life so l instead chose to do finance as well as HR and minor didn't finance in terms of my career progression it's been pretty linear I was pretty lucky i got a job pretty much right after graduating as an admin assistant which led me to being an HR assistant but HR coordinator and then a generalist and then kind of like people up generalist centratly the same thing just a different company and I work as a consultant so it's been pretty linear in terms of my Chr I wrote my exam last year and I just after that you'd have to get what I think the three years of experience
