• What are you most proud of?

I am proud of myself for completing my Bachelors degree program. I am the first person to graduate college in my family and this accomplishment means so much to me. It has been a long time coming and I just feel so grateful that I was given the opportunity to go back to college. I started college later than most due to military life and then adjusting to civilian life once I separated. I have no regrets and I am excited to start this new phase in my life.

• What was the biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge I had was balancing my home life and school life. I have two kids, 6 and 2, so it was rough sometimes when I needed to carve out time for my schoolwork. My husband has been a travel RN for over a year, so most of the time it was me and the kids. However, he did give me quiet time on my off days which I appreciated so much. Also, these last 2-3 classes have been really challenging, which caused me to miss out on time with my extended family. Now that Im done, I plan to make up for it starting with a much-needed vacation.

• Any disappointments?

I cant think of any disappointments that I had. HSA was a long program, and I am confident that I completed it to the best of my ability.

• What are your hopes for the future?

My goal is to become an office manager at either a mental health clinic or within the VA. We are moving back to SC at the beginning of next year, and I plan to work within the healthcare system in Charlotte, NC. Im also thinking about getting another certification under my belt along with my CMA one, but Im not so sure when or if I will. When I obtained my AA in HSA, it was hard for me to find employment. Hopefully, this BA degree will allow me to have more job opportunities.
