Discuss the similarities and differences between the play and the film version.

• Imagine you are making a film version of Miller's play, adapted for our time. Would the story's trajectory be any different, or would Willy still come to his end chasing an illusion, and Biff surrender to his disillusionment and despair?
• Answer one of these questions in detail: Would Linda see herself as more than mere support for her husband, perhaps asserting her authority in the home (and society) more fully, and maybe have helped Willy to 'keep it real'? In short, where do you think 'we' are now in terms of this idea of the American Dream - the dream that appears to drive a wedge between members of the Loman family?
