Character is intoduced at trial by calling a witness who testifies about a person's reputation in the relevant community. this is done through summaries of what the witness has heard others say about the person in question. none of hte people who the character witness is basing the opiion on is present to testify; they are not under oath and subject to cross examination. in another context, this might be called gossip.

1) does this practice deprive a defendant of his/her right to confront witnesses/accusers,as provided in the 6th Amendment?

2( Does this seemingly conflict with the standards in rules 801 and 802, which are based on the need to protect the Sixth Amendment's right to confront witnesse? why/why not.

3) Is this type of testimony sufficiently trustworthy to be allowed in a criminal case? (why/why not)
